Hi, I am Laura

I am a PhD researcher, pedagogista, atelierista, educational consultant and graphic designer. Originally from Reggio Emilia, I work internationally with educators, schools, and organisations. I am passionate about creating meaningful learning environments, supporting educators professional growth, and making children's learning and thinking visible through documentation, creativity, and collaborative inquiry.

WHAT I BELIEVE

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach, New Zealand's early childhood curriculum Te Whāriki, and Nordic outdoor learning philosophies, I believe that learning environments act as a third teacher, creating opportunities for engagement, creativity, participation, and meaning-making. I see children as curious, competent, and capable learners whose ideas and questions deserve to be listened to and valued. I am passionate about making visible children's learning, educators passions, and the potential of the environment.

HOW I WORK

Drawing on experience across education, visual arts, and research, I bring an interdisciplinary perspective to professional learning and learning environment design. My work is informed by experience as an artist, atelierista, pedagogical leader, forest school leader, educational consultant, centre manager/director, graphic designer, and researcher. Together, these roles have shaped a practice grounded in collaboration, inquiry, creativity, and reflection.

WHAT I CAN DO FOR YOU

I work alongside educators, schools, and organisations through workshops, presentations, consultations, and ongoing professional learning. Together, we explore learning, creativity, documentation, research, and pedagogical development in ways that reflect the unique strengths, values, and aspirations of each community.

A little more about me

Laura Magnavacchi Atelier

I was born in a small village in the hills of Reggio Emilia, where stone piazzas, mountain trails, and a strong sense of community shaped my early years. Nearby stands La Pietra, a distinctive mountain with a flat summit that has always held a special place in my heart. Wherever I travel, a part of home travels with me, and whenever I return I spend as much time as possible walking its trails.

Since leaving Italy, I have lived across Europe, the UK, the US, and New Zealand, learning from diverse cultures and educational perspectives. Visual arts and creativity have always been central to my life. Today, I continue to find inspiration in creative practice, research, nature, and the everyday moments that invite reflection and discovery.
